We had a break last week. A break from our routine, not from our grieving. We went on our first ski trip of our lives with two special friends, Janet and Ben, to Kimberley, BC. It was exactly what we needed and I got the chance to spend a whole week pretty much without any fights with my adorable five-year-old!

We were packing and Ian was preparing his little Toy Story’s suitcase, full of his stuffies and… Ricardo’s ashes. Yep. Ricardo came with us as well. And it was great, I must say. The simple fact that my son decided to bring his dad’s ashes, or ‘Dad in the Box’, as Nick calls it and Ricardo certainly would love, made me realize that he may need his ashes around for a longer period and May is arriving too fast.

So, I went online. Where else you can find something so unique, so fast? Or, at least, I think it was unique as it was the first time I needed it… And so there we are, me and Ian, searching for a beautiful pendant for him to wear. The uniqueness is the fact that we can add a picture of him and Ricardo, it is engraved with both their names as per his request and we can put a little bit of ashes on it! You read it right: a little bit of Ricardo’s ashes will be hanging from Ian’s neck for as long as he wants it.

Now, instead of saying “I want Daddy now”, Ian is asking me “when Daddy will arrive?” The first time he asked me that I felt a cold air going down my spine. How should I answer this??? I gave back a question asking what he meant by Daddy arriving? Ian was talking about the pendant – That’s a fairly easy question to answer!
